Dr. Marcelo Spector was born and raised in Brazil, where he received his medical degree from Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro – one the top universities in the country. After graduating, Dr. Spector came to the United States and did a year of Internal Medicine at St.Luke’s-Roosevelt Hospital in New York. Subsequently, he did his Diagnostic Radiology Residency at Beth Israel Medical Center, where he served as Chief Resident during his last year of residency in 2003.
The following year Dr. Spector did his fellowship in Interventional Radiology at New York Hospital-Cornell and Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in New York. The fellowship training encompassed all areas of Inteventional Radiology, with special emphasis in Oncology interventions, such as tumor embolizations and radiofrequency ablations.
After finishing his training in 2004, Dr. Spector joined the faculty of Yale New Haven Hospital and the VA Connecticut and became Assistant Professor of Radiology, where his responsibilities included fellows teaching, research and clinical work. During that time Dr. Spector performed the whole range of interventional procedures. At Yale, he was involved in researching cryoablation of renal tumors and improvement of dialysis catheter design.
Dr. Spector is Board Certified in Diagnostic Radiology and received his specialty Board Certification (CAQ) in Interventional Radiology from the American Board of Radiology in 2006.
In 2008 Dr. Spector was recruited by Renaissance Imaging to help expand the Interventional Radiology group, bringing his expertise in Oncology Interventions, such as radiofrequency ablation of liver tumors and cryoablation of kidney tumors, as well as venous access, dialysis management, arterial interventions, biliary interventions, placement and removal of IVC filters, aortic stent-graft placement, genitourinary interventions, GI interventions such as gastrostomy tube placement, among others.
Dr. Spector also has significant experience with noninvasive vascular imaging such as imaging of aortic aneurysms and peripheral vascular disease, including 3D processing with workstations.
Dr. Spector is an active member of the Society of Interventional Radiology (SIR), Radiological Society of North America (RSNA) and the American College of Radiology.
